Home Remedies to Treat a Cat with Fever

Many people believe that a cat has a fever if it's nose is warm or dry, since several people believe that a healthy cat's nose is always wet or damp. But a cat's fever isn't accurately measured like that. Actually, it's not easy to tell if a cat has a fever just by touching and feeling the warmth of their body.

Home Remedies for Cat Cold

My husband rescued a sickly cat, and she has colds. I could immediately tell that the little feline has cat cold because of the following symptoms:

  • sneezing
  • nasal secretions
  • teary eyes

About cat cold

Cat cold is a type of upper respiratory infection in cats which can be resolved within a few days without any intervention.

Your cat can acquire cold if they live in a cramped and unclean environment, or if they get into contact with infected cats. Also, they can get a cat cold if they are stressed.

How to treat cat cold

To help your cat have a faster recovery from their illness, you can try the following home remedies:

  1. Remove nasal discharges. Use a clean cloth to wipe off your cat's nasal secretions.
  2. Wipe discharges in eyes. Use a cotton ball moistened in warm water to remove the discharges in eyes.
  3. Feed your cat with wet food. Since your cat's sense of smell is obstructed with nasal secretions, they lack appetite especially when it comes to dry cat food. Compared to dry food, wet food has a stronger odor.
  4. Offer lots of fluid. Just like how a human cold is treated, it is advised to drink a lot of fluid such as water. If your cat refuses to drink water due to its lack of smell, offer them cat milk.
  5. Use a dropper if cat refuses to drink. Still, if cat refuses to drink any type of fluid, "force" him to drink using a dropper.

Though you can try these home remedies, it is still advised to visit a veterinarian.

How to Treat Acne in Cats

When you see dark spots on the chin or lips of your cat, it might not only be ordinary dirt. It is highly possible that your cat has acne.

Cats get this type of skin disease because of the following:
  • poor grooming
  • stress
  • hormonal imbalance
  • plastic food bowls
In order to treat feline acne, you can do any of the following:
  • Cleanse the affected area with Betadine. This treatment is ideal for mild conditions.
  • For a more severe condition, you can apply a topical ointment containing benzoyl peroxide. For Philippine brands, you can use acne gels such as PanOyxl and Benzac.
To prevent your cat acne's reoccurrence, observe proper grooming and don't forget to clean the chin area. Also, replace your cat's plastic food bowl with stainless ones, since bacteria are more easily trapped in plastic food bowls which can transfer on your cat's chin and lips.

If your cat's acne looks severe and inflamed, it is suggested to consult a veterinarian.

Can Sibling Cats Mate?

Would brother and sister cats mate with each other?

Unlike us humans, cats do not care about family ties when it comes to mating. A male cat would mate to his sister cat or even to his mother cat especially when they are the only available female cats around. This is the same for female cats. If the only available male cat is their brother or son, the female cat would mate with him if she is already in heat.

Would their litters develop deformities?

According to Cat Pregnancy Report, there's a higher chance for the kittens coming from sibling cats to develop birth defects and diseases. Nevertheless, that is not always the case. Most kittens are also born healthy with no deformities.

Also, based on my own experience, my cats do not have any deformities at all despite that their parent cats are brother and sister.

When and How Did You Start Loving Cats?

when and how did you start loving cats
I started liking cats when my mum placed a cat on my lap and she took a photo of us - me and the cat I named Muni.

I don't remember if Muni was a he or a she. I was 5 years old back then. I really didn't ask my mum to place Muni on my lap cos I was never interested in cats. I was just like "OK" there is a cat in our household.

I was really quite afraid when my mum started to place Muni on my lap. I felt that Muni would scratch or bite me. Nevertheless, I pretended to be a brave kid.

But when Muni was already on my lap, I felt "WOW." A fluffy white and orange spotted animal was on my lap. And the cat was really nice, like a good kid. Muni didn't move on my lap. He/She was like a soft statue.

Then my mum took our photo. From then on, I am beginning to see that cats are cute and nice creatures.

Just because of a one-time photo shoot with Muni, I started to love cats.

How about you? What is your story?

How Many Times Should You Bathe a Cat Within a Month?

Cats are clean creatures and they keep themselves clean by licking their fur. Even if you don't bathe your healthy cats during their lifetime, they won't smell. Does that mean you don't have to bathe your cat? I don't think so.

If your cat made a gleeful stroll outside your house, they often go home dirty; and wiping the dirt off with a wet towel just won't do. Hence, you need to bathe your cat. But how often should you bathe your cat? How many times within a month?
